Lech Coaster
Description
Lech Coaster is a sit-down steel roller coaster built by Vekoma and located in the Magical Mountains themed zone of Legendia in Chorzów, Poland. Opened on 1 July 2017, the ride cost approximately 12 million EUR to construct and represents one of the most significant coaster investments in the country's amusement park history. The ride begins with a chain lift to a height of 40 m, followed immediately by a first drop angled at a severe 105° with a simultaneous 135° rotation to the right, pushing the train to a top speed of 95 km/h. That drop feeds directly into the first inversion, a reverse sidewinder. The layout then carries the train through a low rise with a change of banking, a second taller hill, and a corkscrew that threads directly through the station building. A near-inversion turnaround follows, then a 180° right-hand turn near the station structure, a small hill, and a third inversion in the form of another corkscrew. After a final 180° turn, a low banked rise, and two spirals, the brakes engage and the train returns to the station. The 908 m of track also routes the train through a tunnel. Two five-car trains run the circuit, each carrying 20 passengers, delivering a throughput of 1,000 riders per hour. The coaster's theming draws on the legend of Lech, the mythical founder of the Polish state. The queue area includes a media room where guests can watch a themed film produced by Platige Image before boarding. The track is dark grey with a gold stripe running along the rails, the supports are light grey, and the front of each train carries a coat-of-arms eagle motif. The final theming element, a nearly seven-metre wingspan white-tailed eagle figure produced using 3D printing technology, was installed on 20 March 2018. Lech Coaster placed second in the European Star Award ranking of the ten best new European coasters of 2017, received the FKF-Award from the German enthusiast organisation Freundeskreis Kirmes und Freizeitparks in June 2018, and entered the Golden Ticket Awards Top 50 Steel Coasters in 2024, ranking 43rd in 2025.
