Description

Jurassic Forest is a large-scale dinosaur-themed walking trail set within the natural landscape of Edelwies in Neukirchen, Bavaria. Visitors move through the park's expansive grounds encountering more than 270 dinosaurs in total. The centerpiece of the experience is a collection of 83 animatronic figures that produce lifelike movement and sound, placing Jurassic Forest among the largest dinosaur parks of its kind in the world. The trail is organized into distinct themed zones, including the Schlucht der Raptoren located behind the park's reservoir, the Land der friedlichen Riesen adjacent to the Edelwies-Alm, and the Magic Mountain along the path leading up to the Alm. Each area features dedicated installations that take on a different character after dark, when lighting transforms the surroundings into an immersive nighttime environment. A dinosaur excavation site is situated beneath the park's treehouse, adding an interactive element to the route. Because of the size of the terrain and its largely undisturbed natural character, the figures are integrated directly into the forest and landscape rather than placed in a constructed setting. Species represented along the trail include the Tyrannosaurus Rex (up to 13 m in length), Brachiosaurus (18 to 22 m), Quetzalcoatlus (10 to 11 m), Albertosaurus (8 m), and Dilophosaurus (6 m), spanning a geological range from approximately 195 million to 66 million years ago.
