Kolejka Górska

Description

Kolejka Górska was a wooden sit-down roller coaster that operated at Lunapark Sto Pociech in Warsaw, opening in 1933. The park itself, located adjacent to the Warsaw Zoo on the Praga side of the Vistula, had been running since 1928 under the name Luna Park before expanding to its final form that same year. The coaster served as the central attraction of the venue and was erected on an L-shaped footprint, with the longer side of the structure facing the former Zygmuntowska Street and the bank of the Vistula River. Its profile was visible from the Kierbedź Bridge and from the riverside promenades at Podzamcze. Propulsion was provided by a chain lift, and the ride operated with a single train. Lunapark Sto Pociech drew a broad audience from across Warsaw, particularly families with children, and left a documented mark on the culture of the era. It was referenced in the song Choć na Pragę, considered an unofficial anthem of the Praga district, with lyrics by Tadeusz Stach and music by Artur Gold, and was also mentioned by Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński in his poem Zabawa ludowa. The park ceased operations in 1939, and Kolejka Górska was permanently closed along with it. Remnants of some of the park's structures have survived in the western part of Park Praski, near Wybrzeże Helskie Street.
